Metro Mountain Bikers

Milwaukee Wisconsin

Not much has been posted of late from Rays or partner Trek regarding when the bike park will be opening in "Fall 2010"

Vital MTB has a contest for winning a trip to the grand opening of Ray's MKE

The official rules state the trip will be November 12-14 2010 at the grand opening.

Trip Details
- November 12-14, 2010
- Airfare and accomodation provided
- A Trek demo bike (like a Ticket) will be provided by Ray's MTB for the winner to used that weekend
- If the winner wants to bring their own bike, they are responsible for all shipping/airline fees.

So I guess I have some plans that weekend =)

From Ray's FBook-

" Nov 13,14 will be the opening for MKE. The Friday before each parks opening will be a walk through for media and customers. No riding on Friday. Nov. 6,7 will be the grand opening for CLV. Same thing on fri. You will be able to buy your season pass on those Fridays. Can't wait to get these parks up and going this year. It's gonna be good"
Nice, I requested friends with Rays on FB and I guess I will plan to check it out Friday before. Wont have time that weekend but I should have time the following week. Should be a blast !

I see that Trek now sells a bike for use at a Bike Park, the Trek Ticket now comes as a bike and not just frame. I guess if your going to own a bike park you should sell a bike for it. Price is insanely high ($2600+), spec'ed well enough, more like a 4X bike than a park bike. I will certainly have to demo one however, even though I'm pretty sure I will want a single speed for such use.

Nice the page has finally been updated ! Lots of cool stuff the first weekend, I will mis most of the fun unless I can con my 7 year old son into checking it out on Friday night and maybe Sunday night after I drop him off.

Weekends are really bad for me, after work on weekdays and my lunch is my free time !

From Rays FBook- regarding family discount..

Will there be a family discount for a year membership?

Ray's Mtb Yes, Buy one for $299 and get the second one half off($150). If you need a third one, it's half of the second one ($75) and so on.

Marty Weigel So I gotta ask about the "and so on".. We've got four kids. Is it $299 + $150 + $ 75 + $38 + $ 19 + $10 ?

Ray's Mtb That is correct!
Drove by this weekend just to see what's what, and could see a little bit, but not much. Still have most of the windows closed off. I did notice a very big parking lot in the rear where they probably did all the lumber sales at the store when it was open. Does anyone know if they are planning any outdoor ramps to keep the place functioning during the summer months, or is that not in the playbook? Just looks like a lot of space, that's why I am wondering.
I heard that nothing outside or a dirt room was in the plans right now, however, their motto is "If you keep coming, we will keep building" so I assume if the place is a hit they will expand !

This park is VERY mtb oriented, had a few buddies ride last week and they all complained that it was too much for mtb's and not enough bmx. Great news for us, I am going Friday.
They are a Trek Partner and Trek isn't exactly a BMX brand. If I were Trek I would want the bikes I want to sell to be demoed there. That would be XC bikes, Hardtail, 29er, 69er if they still make it and small travel full suspension. Plus this area, the state in general is very XC area as shown by the success of WORS !

"Trek isn't exactly a BMX brand"

you should "yet"....

Trek certainly has the ability to produce and market BMX bikes.. and remember, BMXers grow up to be be MTBers and roadies..
Trek had a BMX lineup with Pros and alike years ago, I worked at a Trek dealer then and it was a hard sell for a BMX kid to want to be on the same brand that made moms cross bike. I don't think Trek makes any race or freestyle able BMX anymore.

I remember the frames being aluminum with the competitors being cromemoly. The Trek Ticket is closest thing and thats again aluminum and almost $1000 just for the frame where the best frames in that class are all again cromemoly and sell for the $600 range for US made (the Black Market MOB is wielded in Wisconsin by Waterford i hear) and Taiwan made is $400 range. Trek has nothing to compete with this !

I liked how Trek bought Gary Fisher and sold them as the high end, now they rolled Gary Fisher line into the Trek line as "Trek by Gary Fisher". The appeal of the Gary Fisher was that it seemed like it was not a mega mass produced bike with it's cool graphics and tech even if it was as mass produced as my moms 700c crossbike.

I like that Trek is a Wisconsin company even if the bikes are not made here anymore. I still own a Trek Road Bike made in USA, a GT Zaskar Made in USA and a .243 Racing hand made in Canada. Pretty sure my next bike will NOT be USA or Canada made as the prices are too out of line.

I ride GNU Snowboards all handmade near Canada as well.

Good thing I never get off topic ! See you at the Park !

Bad news friends, we'll have to wait a little bit longer now.

"Despite the extensive progress already made on the new Ray's MTB, the official grand opening has been delayed."
