Technique for smooth airs

I know it's probably not easy to write in words, but I am kind of new at the whole "catching air" thing. I mainly stay planted both tires on dirt, but with Ray's opening up this week I was wondering if anyone had any pointers, mindsets, or tricks of the trade to get more comfortable in the air. I really enjoy the speed of hitting a section quick, but when I know there are any jumps or transitions I get a little antsy and find it hard to commit to the jump.
