MTBing in Milwaukee

Hi Everyone,

I have recently moved to MKE for grad school at Marquette. I have been looking into some of the trails of milwaukee to do some riding(Joel's river adventure and the river trail) and was wondering how safe are they? I currently live down by Marquette and know that there are some bad neighborhoods on this side of the city as well as some up by the UWM campus. If anyone can give me some guidance, I would greatly appreciate it.

Comment by Rance Frankum on March 18, 2012 at 7:10am: I havn't ridden the Milwaukee River Trails in a wile but they are always a lot of fun, sections of the trail are illegal to ride of (because of private property) but the trail still connects and flows just fine, ive heard of robberies on the trail before but have never experienced anything like that. ive ridden plenty of times there on my own but I would recommend going with someone. you will find, hikers, runners, off leash dogs, and LOTS of random other people.

If you want to try out any of the trails in MKE I would be willing to ride with you. None of my friends bike and I would prefer not to try out new trails on my own.

Comment by Jacob Tischer on April 11, 2012 at 9:59pm: Did 4 laps at Crystal Ridge/Alpha Trail today, the trails are in great condition! Planning on heading out there tomorrow morning before work. Alpha Trail is fairly easy to navigate, but crystal ridge could be kinda of confusing for a first timer. Planning on heading out to the kettle moraine this weekend; probably the best riding within a hour of Milwaukee. Happy Riding!
